Bayou beignets, mmm please
Please raise your hand if you've ever Got that beignet smell drifting up your nasal passages. Me too, but my god the world famous made in New Orleans treat was a crowd favorite when I lived In New Orleans, and its these cold Swampy Melbourne days like we have had this last month that has me wishing for the expat favorite treat.
When you walk down by the bayou, you're hit with crowds of tourist lining up for these delicious crispy fried donut pastries, killing any ideas you had of “taking it healthy” on this trip you may have felt. It's daunting enough to navigate the American diet, but I detest that you can sway in the jazz capital of the south, un cafĂ© et donut never felt so right – never mind the smoothie bar.
(If only it
were that easy)
OR
(If there
was a part 2 to that story, I would be in a food coma etc)
OR
(and you know how the second half goes, have over indulged in choux pastry and now I
am spending the rest of my swampy nights in new Orleans curled over with a food
coma

10 Steps to beignet goodness
Before you start diving into any recipe,
you need to get your kitchen looking fresh.
Just like you would at work before preparing your pitch, you
want to establish a place of zen and create an ambiance that inspires you to cook how you now
feel in this creative open space. Then, you can start by choosing your flour. Also, put on an apron (you don't need to but it could be nice).
Keep
in mind that this is suppose to be fun.
See,
nothing fancy going on here. By following this
guide you can actually focus on making
a masterpiece healthy breakfast for the whole family.
After you've chosen your flour, figure out how many people you want to feed you want to use the freshest bananas too. Think of this
step like you did step # 1-- you're creating zen
body, in mind and in space so that you won't have to figure it out
with each additional step, where to go from here.
Last, but certainly not least,
you want to eat the beignets. This
way, you can be sure they are deliciously healthy
and sexy to the last bite.
Last, but certainly not least, you want to fry
them in a little bit of coconut oil. This way, they will taste more like they are from a wholefoods
store and not a second rate fried fish n chip barrel oil.
Then, you're ready to eat, eat, eat
and start by slicing a kiw, the fruit that is,
not a New Zealander J. And you know what the best part is? Next time, you’re in New Orleans won't feel quite as
daunting. :)
